progresso artisan soups: my review

As previously mentioned, I’ve been super stoked to give you all my opinion of the Progresso Artisan line of soups! If you missed the post, I got the opportunity to hang at the NYC Wine + Food festival a couple of weeks ago, exploring all of the fun foods the city harbors, as well as seeing the Progresso line up close and personal!

First up, the Rustic Tomato with Chicken and Dumplings.

To start off, I want to mention that this was Mr. D’s favorite soup out of them all! Its texture lives up to its ‘rustic’ name, and the flavor really stands true to chef Heidi’s Chicken Cacciatore inspiration. In fact, its one of the first things we noticed when we took our first spoonful. Seeing as Chicken Cacciatore is an old, Italian classic, we noticed the similarity right away! I can totally understand why Mr. D ran away with the bowl so I couldn’t have any more. Sometimes you just don’t want to share. I get it.

Which leads me to our next soup.. Masala Curry Butternut Squash.

This was my favorite of the bunch. Which explains why I only have 1 picture of it. I ate it so fast after it heated up, that I completely forgot to take an “after” photo. 

This soup has such a delicious spice flavor to it, but is perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the squash. It tasted like fall in a bowl and I devoured it within minutes. Mr. D didn’t even get a taste of this one. If you love butternut squash, this one is a must try.

Creamy Potato with Sausage and Kale

I’ll start off by saying that this one was probably my least favorite of the group, but I’m really not one for potato soup (or sausage), so I could just be totally bias.

What I did like about this soup is how muuuuch sausage there is, as well as the size of the slices. There is s a u s a g e in this soup for sure, which is great if you’re a sausage lover! I was amazed at the size of the pieces because you’re really getting a bang for your buck. This isn’t your average soup in a can.. ya’ll.

Sorry for saying ya’ll.

Creamy Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper

Our second favorite, for sure! Your classic tomato soup with a very noticeable hint of roasted red peppers. If you love roasted reds, this soup is seriously for you. Its pepper-y, tomato-y, super creamy, and pretty much the exact soup I’d want to eat on a cold, winter day.

I was tempted to make some grilled cheese to dip in the soup, but I refrained. Please try that out and let me know how much I missed out. Thanks!

And last but not least, Smokey White Bean and Winter Vegetables

Think – home cooking. Think – the soup your mom or grandma made when you were home sick. It has this warmth to it that makes you feel like a kid again. I know.. deep. But really! This soup made me want to dig up my old 90’s tattoo chocker and lay on the couch to watch The Price is Right while sipping on some of it. 

The veggies are nice and firm, but not overly tender. Super hearty and super delicious all around. 

So, those are my thoughts on this new, fabulous line of soups! Have you tried them out yet?! I would definitely recommend picking some up on your next grocery trip! Be sure to let me know what you think. 🙂
